Abstract
Neuropathic itch (NI) is a symptom of the same neurologic disorders that cause neuropathic pain (NP). Neuropathic itch develops in normal skin from excess peripheral firing or damaged central inhibition of itch pathway neurons. The diagnosis of neuropathic itch is challenging, and the mechanisms of neuropathic itch are poorly understood, resulting in reduced treatment availability. The authors report the case of NI caused by a thalamic infarction successfully treated with pregabalin.
